Blogging In September

Yes, it is September and tomorrow is Labour Day. Fall is fast approaching. I know I haven't been here in a while, but as always I am hoping to do better in September.  To start this month off  I have a couple of cards from here and there.

First up is a card from St. Pierre & Miquelon. This one shows a group of tourists in a zodiac , perhaps out looking for puffins, whales or seals , all of which you can see on the bottom of the card. St. Pierre & Miq is a self - governing territorial overseas collectivity of France. It is situated in the northwestern Atlantic Ocean near Canada. The islands are 3,819 km from Brest, the nearest point in France, but just 20 km of the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland , Canada.

Two of my brothers recently visited the islands and Dale sent this  card along. He used a recent 2013 stamp , issued to highlight the history of Geology.

Next is a card from Scotland, a part of the United Kingdom. It is a fine view of an old train on the Glenfinnan Viaduct., located in the Highlands of Scotland. Built between 1897 and 1898 entirely of concrete, the viaduct consists of 21 arches , each spanning 15m and has a maximum height of 20m .

Bruce , from South Africa  was visiting the area and sent this card along. He used a United Kingdom, UniversalMail, International Postcard Stamp. UniversalMail, UK has been operating since 2001. Their stamps can be used to send postcards to any destination outside of the UK. It is quite unusual  to see mail arrive from that area without The Queen on the stamp. There are quite a number of these stamps issued for London, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and in my opinion all
are quite attractive and collectible.
Too bad Royal Mail saw fit to cancel it with a pen.

The last card for today is one for my Towns of Newfoundland collection. I really haven't done much with that collection lately, but when I have the opportunity I'll always try and add one or two. Since I was recently in Newfoundland , I was able to add Victoria to the collection. Victoria with a population of around 1760 is a town in Conception Bay located approximately midway on the Bay de Verde Peninsula. The postcard shows the Newfoundland Flag in the top left corner along with two of the area's tourist attractions- icebergs and whales.
The card arrived with a large , clear circular cancellation . The large stamp is from the 2013 Adopt A Pet set of 5.

That's the update for this time, short and sweet. With any luck I'll be back here again tomorrow. Thanks to Dale and Bruce for their cards.
