Labour Day 2013

Happy Labour Day to all the workers out there. Labour Day is an annual holiday to celebrate the achievements of workers. In Canada,  Labour Day has been celebrated since the 1880s. In My hometown of Grand falls, Newfoundland the Labour Day parade started in 1921 and still contines today, over 90 years later. Well done !

I know it's postcards that you came here for , so let's get to them. I have lots of great cards, with great stamps, sent by great people from great places.

Let's start with a card from beautiful, charming Prague and a night view of Wenceslas Square.
Ana was visited the city in July and dropped this card in the mail to me. She used a 2011 stamp from a set of 2 in an Architecture set.

My next card is from Vatican City. One doesn't receive many cards from this city-state.The card shows The New Guy, Papa Francesco, Jorge Mario Bergoglio.
Johan sent this card, again the result of a summertime visit. The stamps are 2 of 5 in a 2011 set highlighting the Travels of Popes.

This next card is another from My Lovely Teena. We visited Banff and Lake Louise in July and as she always does, Teena took the opportunity to send me a postcard. This time, it's the "Jewel of the Rockies "
Lake Louise. Located 57 km northwest of Banff, Lake Louise is set in a small glacial valley, surrounded by ice-capped mountains. One of the best known heritage hotels, the Fairmont Chateau lake Louise, is situated grandly at one end of the lake.

Teena was lucky enough to secure a clear cancel on the stamp from The Depot, Canada Post, Lake Louise. That doesn't always happen in Canada, by the way. The stamp is 1 of 2 issued June 20th, my birthday actually. It shows Laura Secord while the 2nd stamp , not shown, shows Charles de Salaberry. Laura Secord may be famous for her chocolates, but in Canada , she is a Hero. Her bravery and determination and her 17 hours of difficult travel through ditches, fields and underbrush to avoid American sentries, led her to the British where her information proved vital and contributed to the ambush and defeat of the American forces at the Battle of Beaver Dams during the War of 1812.

A new addition to my Airlines and Aircraft on Postcards Collection is new. An Air Europa Airbus A340, this one at Madrid Airport.  Air Europa no longer flies the A340, too bad , as it's an aircraft I still need to fly on. They only fly A330s, B737s, B787s and Embraer 195s.

Fabienne mailed this one from Madrid, Spain , however I do believe she is now mailing from Paris, France. The small stamp on the left is a Juan Carlos definative. The middle stamp is from a set of 4 Endangered Marine Life , issued in 2013 and the right stamp , also issued in 2013, commemorates the Baracelona-Sarria Railway.

The Australian Territory , Cocos ( Keeling ) Islands , in the Indian Ocean is next. Palm trees, beautiful sunsets, warm breezes on sandy beaches, what more could one ask for ?

Don from New South Wales , Australia posted this card on 11 June 2013 and I received it on 30 August 2013. Two and a half months, I'm not sure if that's good or bad for a card from there. Let's have a look at the stamps now. The two flower stamps on the top were issued as a set of 4 in 2010. The bottom left stamp is from a set of 2 issued in 2012 and the bottom right stamp was issued in 2013 , 1 of 5 in a set celebrating 50 Years of Stamps.

I think that's enough cards for this time. Thanks to Ana, Johan, My Lovely Teena, Fabienne, and Don. It's still Monday, it's still Labour Day , so I hope you all had a great day. Take care. Again with any luck, I'll be here again tomorrow.
